So Lost, So Low

Breathing out with breath as heavy as lead, it’s like a razor in the throat just speaking your name, on a morning like this our coats swallow us whole.
Past your house, and it’s been so long that our names have faded from the wall.

Now there’s nothing there at all

It’s like we’re fleeing fast, and falling back, we’re dragging feet to cover our
tracks to disappear without a trace and leave nothing behind.

Because there must be something more than being better off this way.
Just heavy in the grey.
It’s been so lost, so low.
We had plans to take control. Now it’s not the same at all.

Truth be told, we’re made up more or less of broken parts just finding our way. We’re fighting through the noise to be heard and understood.
And we sweat. Over the days we spend just wasting our time, then we do it all again.

We wake up full of holes and broken, just get dressed, go to work and steady hands that shake, and dull the ache, just one breath at a time.

Because there must be something more than being better off this way.
Just heavy in the grey.
It’s been so lost, so low.
We had plans to take control. Now it’s not the same at all.

There’s a devil hanging above the city where you’re sleeping and he’s waiting for the chance, for when the guards throw down their knives. And he’s watching, don’t let him know that you see him.

And he’s saying “you’ll probably be forgotten so come and drop your guard and let me inside”. And he’s singing, don’t let him know that you’re listening.
